Drywall installation is the one main task that homeowners look to accomplish themselves if it is not too big. Perhaps you want to remodel a bathroom or a bedroom and you have the spare time to slap it up yourself with a friend or family member. This is common because it isn't the final product as the drywall finisher can come in afterwards, and fix any bad cuts or joints. Just keep in mind, however, that the taper may charge extra for the additional work they would have to do than if the Sheetrock was installed the best way possible. Still though, they may not charge too much extra for a relatively smaller job. In this case, it could be worth your while to tackle the boarding yourself to save yourself those few extra dollars.

You will want to weigh the pros and cons, however. Is it worth your time to do it yourself to risk a taper charging more? After all, you may do a good enough job that the finisher won't have extra work. If you have any previous experience, and the tools necessary, and there isn't many cut outs like electrical boxes, you may insist on doing it yourself.

On the contrary, considering the costs of having professionals to do it versus you doing it yourself, it could take you much longer to the point that the money saved is valued at paying yourself less than minimum wage, especially if the drywall finisher needs to charge a little extra.

Also, homeowners often resort to a regular drill that they already own, and not a drywall screw gun. The biggest difference is that the drywall drill has a depth setting so that the screws automatically sink in not too far, and in far enough. A screw needs to be deep enough so that it isn't sticking out of the drywall. The drywall screw also can't be too deep, or the screw will break through the gypsum meaning the screw is not holding the drywall in place at all, and it will cause a screw pop because the board is still moving in that area.
